6월 20일, 세계 난민의 날은 이 질문에서 시작됩니다.

한옥커즈가 정기적으로 주최하는 <난민 인사이트>는, 한국에 거주하는 난민들이 직접 자신의 삶과 이야기를 나누는 자리입니다. 이 행사는 낯선 존재로 여겨졌던 난민의 목소리를 가까이에서 듣고, 난민과 비난민이 관계를 맺을 수 있도록 돕는 공공의 장입니다. 우리는 이 만남을 통해, 이해를 넘어 공존으로, 공존을 넘어 연대로 나아가는 경험을 함께 만들어가고 있습니다.
다가오는 7월 13일, 한옥커즈는 난민인사이트 펠로우십의 첫 번째 결과물로, 소켐과 캄보디아 공동체가 준비한 특별한 시간을 엽니다. 스토리텔링 워크숍을 바탕으로 탄생한 이번 행사에서는 캄보디아 전통춤과 음식, 인터뷰, 발표 등이 어우러져 공동체의 문화와 목소리를 생생히 전합니다. 경계를 넘어 연결을 만드는 이 자리에 여러분을 초대합니다.
Refugee Insights is a recurring event hosted by Hanokers, where refugees living in Korea share their personal stories with the public. These gatherings are designed to create spaces of connection and understanding between refugees and non-refugees—moving beyond unfamiliarity to coexistence, and from coexistence to solidarity.
On July 13, Hanokers will present the first outcome of our Refugee Insights Fellowship: a special program led by Sokhem and the Cambodian community. Rooted in our May storytelling workshop, this event will feature traditional Cambodian dance, food, interviews, and personal stories—offering a rich, multidimensional glimpse into their lives and culture. We warmly invite you to join us as we listen, share, and connect across borders.

한옥커즈 멤버들은 6월 9일 유엔난민기구가 주최한 국내 난민 아동, 청소년에 대한 실태조사 보고회에 참여했습니다. 오랫동안 현장에 머물며 난민 아동들의 곁을 지켜주고 계시는 활동가, 연구진분들의 진심어린 목소리와 경험을 들어볼 수 있는 귀한 자리였습니다.
On June 9, Hanokers members attended the UNHCR-hosted briefing on the situation of refugee children and youth in Korea. It was a valuable opportunity to hear the sincere voices and experiences of activists and researchers who have long stood by the side of refugee children on the ground. |
한옥커즈 멤버들과도 함께했던 한나현 연구 활동가, 그리고 올해 들어 한옥커즈에게 많은 인사이트를 준 피난처의 안지영 간사님 등 반가운 얼굴들이 계셔서 더욱 의미있는 자리였습니다. 이전에는 주목받지 못했던 아동, 청소년 난민에 대한 관심이 지속되었으면 좋겠습니다.
It was an especially meaningful gathering with familiar faces, including Hanna Hyun, a research activist who is friend of Hanokers, and Ji-Young Ahn from pNan, who has offered us valuable insights this year. We hope that attention toward refugee children and youth who have long been overlooked continues to grow. |

6월 15일에는 사단법인 피난처가 주최한 <같이 걸을까?> 행사에 다녀왔습니다! 매년 피난처는 세계 난민의 날을 맞아 그곳을 거쳐간 난민들과 선주민들이 모여 함께 소통하고 즐길 수 있는 자리를 마련하고 있는데요, 그 귀한 자리에 한옥커즈도 참여하게 되었습니다.
On June 15, Hanokers members joined “Shall We Walk?”, an event hosted by Refuge pNan! Every year, in celebration of World Refugee Day, Refuge pNan brings together refugees and local residents for a day of connection, sharing, and joy — and this year, we were honored to be a part of it. |
날씨로 인해 올해는 예외적으로 실내에서 진행이 되었음에도 불구하고 미얀마, 우간다 등에서 온 여성 난민들의 진솔한 이야기를 들어볼 수 있었습니다. 행사의 하이라이트는 아프리카 국가에서 온 난민들의 뿜어내는 특유의 흥과 리듬으로 채운 공연들이었습니다💃🏽🕺🏽.
Though this year’s event was exceptionally held indoors due to the weather, we had the chance to hear heartfelt stories from refugee women from countries like Myanmar and Uganda. One of the highlights of the day was the vibrant performances by refugees from African nations, full of energy, rhythm, and joy that lit up the entire room.

지난 6월 2일 경희대학교 학생들이 한옥커즈를 방문했습니다!🙌🏽 학생들은 GCP(Global Citizen Project) 활동의 일환으로 ‘난민 수용 문제와 세계시민의 책임’ 이라는 주제를 선정하고 캠페인을 진행하고 있었습니다. 활동 도중 실제 난민 분들의 이야기를 듣고 그 삶의 현장을 체감하는 것이 진정한 ‘세계 시민’의 시각을 갖는 데 필요하다고 생각해 한옥커즈를 찾아주셨다고 합니다!😆 Conan, Bereket, Bona와 인터뷰 하고, Storytelling Workshop에 참여해주었던 Habib 또한 난민 당사자로서의 솔직한 이야기를 들려주었습니다. |

<Visual Voices>는 2024년에 팔레스타인과 연대하는 목소리를 내기 위하여 처음 시작되었습니다. 올해는 혐오와 분열 속에서 세계 곳곳의 문제들에 관한 다양한 목소리를 예술을 통해 ‘평화’로 말하며 확장하고, 또 연결해가고 있습니다. 전시에 연대한 한옥커즈 멤버들(살레, 정아, 유리, 매튜, 베레켓 등)의 활동도 만나시고, ‘박종철센터’에서 진행중인 상설 전시와 기획 전시도 보고 오세요!
<Visual Voices> was first launched in 2024 to raise voices in solidarity with Palestine. 한옥커즈 공동설립자이자 공동대표인 베레켓은 한국에 거주하는 에티오피아인들과 함께 제21대 대한민국 대통령에게 보내는 축하 서한 캠페인을 조직하고, 6월 22일 대통령실 앞에서 기자회견을 열어 한국 정부가 에티오피아의 평화, 인권, 다원적 민주주의를 지지해 줄 것을 촉구했습니다. 에티오피아인들은 또한, 한국 내 난민과 망명 신청자들이 겪고 있는 복잡하고 불안정한 상황에 새 정부가 관심을 기울여 줄 것을 요청했습니다. 아울러 한국전쟁 당시 연대해 파병된 에티오피아 평화유지군을 기리기 위해, 매년 5월 6일을 공식적으로 ‘대한민국 에티오피아의 날’로 지정해 줄 것을 제안했습니다.
무더운 날씨에도 불구하고, 한옥커즈의 멤버 코난과 소켐도 현장에 함께하며 주한 에티오피아인 공동체의 목소리에 힘을 보탰습니다.
Hanokers Co-founder & Co-representative Bereket organized a congratulatory letter campaign by Ethiopians in Korea to the new Korean president and held a press conference on June 22, in front of the Presidential Office, calling on the Korean government to support peace, human rights, and pluralist democracy in Ethiopia. Ethiopians also urged the new administration to give attention to the complex and unstable conditions that refugees and asylum seekers face in Korea. In addition, they proposed officially designating May 6 as “Ethiopia Day in South Korea in recognition of the Ethiopian Peacekeeping Forces who deployed in solidarity during the Korean War.
Despite the sweltering heat, Hanokers members Conan and Sokhem also attended the press conference, standing in solidarity and amplifying the voices of the Ethiopians in Korea.

이번 난민통역 인력양성 워크숍은 정말 유익한 시간이었습니다.
난민 신청 절차에 대한 개요와 관련 역사, 그리고 실제 사례들을 통해 제도에 대한 지식과 많은 난민들의 실제 경험에 대한 이해를 높일 수 있었습니다. 앞으로 영어–한국어 통역사로서 난민 분들께 도움을 드릴 수 있기를 기대하고 있습니다. 소중한 자리를 마련해주신 호모인테르와 피난처 두 단체에 깊이 감사드립니다!
This workshop for refugee interpreters in-training was really good. It consisted of an excellent overview of the refugee application process, the relevant history, and an insightfull collection of real-life stories that shed light on lived experiences of many refugees. I'm looking forward to providing assistance to refugees as an English-Korean interpreter. Thank you, Homointer and pNan, both great organizations and friends of Hanokers! |
